Traffic Stop on U.S. 74 Leads to Fentanyl, Meth Seizure; Two Arrested in Jackson County

PRESS RELEASE – On April 21, 2026, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) Criminal Suppression Unit (CSU) conducted a
traffic stop on US-74 in the Sylva area. During the course of the traffic stop, deputies established probable cause
to search the vehicle.

As a result of the search, deputies located and seized approximately 13.2 grams of suspected fentanyl, 20.4
grams of suspected methamphetamine, and $379.00 in U.S. currency.

The following individuals were arrested and charged:

Chad Lawrence Calhoun:
Trafficking in Fentanyl by Possession
Trafficking in Fentanyl by Transportation
Maintain a Vehicle/Dwelling
PWIMSD Methamphetamine
PWIMSD Fentanyl
Possession of Methamphetamine
Possession of Fentanyl
Possess Drug Paraphernalia
Resist Public Officer

Sheriff Doug Farmer stated, “This case represents the third trafficking arrest in the past week, highlighting the
relentless efforts of our Criminal Suppression Unit and patrol deputies. Their proactive approach and teamwork
are making a significant impact in disrupting the flow of illegal narcotics in our community.”
