PRESS RELEASE – On January 30, 2026 Trooper Barker with the NC State Highway Patrol stopped a vehicle for speeding on US 74 East near exit 85. Trooper Barker requested assistance from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and the Sylva Police Department due to suspicious behavior by the occupants of the vehicle. Sylva Police Department utilized a K-9, which alerted on the vehicle and a search of the vehicle was performed. Officers seized approximately $8,990.00 in case, 10.74 grams of Fentanyl and a firearm as a result of the search.
