CHEROKEE, N.C. — Cherokee Lady Braves superstar Dvdaya Swimmer, one of North Carolina’s most decorated multi-sport athletes, has committed to continue her academic and athletic career at the University of Hawaii, where she will compete in NCAA Division I Cross Country.
Swimmer said in an Instagram post-
The announcement marks a historic moment for Cherokee High School and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, as Swimmer becomes one of the few athletes from the region to commit to a Division I program located more than 4,500 miles away.
A Generational Talent
Swimmer’s high school career has been nothing short of dominant.
A state champion distance runner, Swimmer burst onto the scene as a freshman, winning the NCHSAA 1A Girls Cross Country State Championship by more than half a minute. She followed that performance with a string of standout seasons on the track, including a state title in the 800 meters and multiple podium finishes in both the 800m and 1600m.
Beyond her medals, Swimmer has set course records, led her team to regional championships, and earned recognition as one of the most versatile athletes in the Smoky Mountain Conference. On top of her running achievements, she has competed in basketball and volleyball, contributing to successful seasons across multiple sports. She has been an anchor to the Lady Braves back-to-back State Championship basketball teams, and this previous Volleyball season she surpassed the 1,000 career digs mark.
As impressive as she is on the court/course, she is one of those athletes whose character and demeaner make her a superstar in everyday life.
