Tractor Trailer Crash on Highway 74

Community, Feature News
Today, we unexpectedly had all of Hwy 74 Westbound traffic routed thru our small town.
This made for a busy day for all our first responders and a frustrating day for our town’s motorists.
A major truck with trailer crash on Hwy 74 caused the traffic diversion.
The crews on Hwy 74 did a fantastic job getting the crash cleared up as soon as safely possible. This was a team effort by many agencies.
In town, the Sylva PD and Town of Sylva Public Works Department immediately created a safe traffic pattern to get vehicles through town with a town-wide goal of no vehicle accidents.
We are happy to report that our traffic plan helped us meet our goal. There were NO traffic accidents as a result of this traffic flooding into our town. This high volume of traffic did cause backups and frustration with many of our drivers.
Message From Sylva PD:
If you are one of the drivers that obeyed the detour, kept your cool, drove cautiously, and didn’t take out your frustrations on a local police officer, Sylva PD would like to say thank you. We really appreciate that.
We would also like to say thank you to the Town of Sylva’s outstanding Public Works Department. These guys jumped in and helped immediately. They always do. They worked extra hours today in the sun to make sure that our town citizens and visitors were safe, and traffic flowed. A big thank you to Jake Scott and his crew!!
Hopefully, this isn’t a problem we as a town have to deal with again anytime soon. But, if we do, we will be ready.
Thanks again to all our local first responder agencies that got the job done today.
